In 1928, Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse film, "Steamboat Willie" is delivered to the distributor. Earlier that month, production began on the first cartoon designed for use with a soundtrack. Then, Walt Disney, Ub Iwerks, Wilfred Jackson, and Johnny Cannon provide the music, voices, and sound effects for a test showing of "Steamboat Willie".

In 1933, The Silly Symphony film, "Old King Cole" is released.

In 1953, Vocalist Geddy Lee of Rush is born in Toronto. He is also featured on the No. 16 single "Take Off" by Bob & Doug McKenzie. The brothers are characters from "SCTV" played by comedians Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas.

In 1957, NBC, losing affiliates left and right in late night with "America After Dark," handed "The Tonight Show" franchise over to a new host. "The Jack Paar Tonight Show", TV Talk Show, debut on NBC as the third incarnation of The Tonight Show. Paar changed the focus from sketch comedy to an interview format, saving the franchise, and created the modern late-night talk show. He revived the NBC's late night talk and variety show (which had collapsed since STEVE ALLEN left it the previous spring) over the next 4 and a half years, before stepping down in March 1962

In 1981, Millions of people around the world watched on television as England's Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer took center stage amidst the pomp and splendor of their Royal Wedding at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. The ceremony took place in the wee small hours of the morning in America, but was still a ratings success, with coverage on all networks. 2,500 guests were in actual attendance. They separated in 1993. In retrospect, shouldn't they have spent a bit less money on the wedding?

In 1986, after an 11-week trial, a jury in U.S. District Court in New York awarded the United States Football League three dollars in its $1.7 billion antitrust suit against the NFL. The jury rejected all of the USFL's television-related claims, which were the self-proclaimed heart of the USFL's case. Three dollars was just under the hourly wage David Tanny got paid for working for those cheap tightwads at Singing Hills, filled with rednecks and homophobes for a workforce.

In 1987, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Co. announced an agreement with Jerry Garcia to market a new ice cream flavor -- "Cherry Garcia."
