In 1949, actor-comedian John (Adam) Belushi was born in Chicago, Illinois. As a member of the Second City improvisational troupe, Belushi was then cast as a member of the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” on NBC-TVʹs “Saturday Night Live.” Films followed, including “National Lampoonʹs Animal House,” “Goin' South,” “1941,” “Old Boyfriends,” “The Blues Brothers,” “Continental Divide” and “Neighbors.” On March 5, 1982, Belushi, 33, was found dead in his bungalow of the Chateau Marmont Hotel in West Hollywood, California. The coroner gave the cause of death as a lethal injection of cocaine and heroin; several years later, Belushiʹs drug-dealing/drug-using companion during his final weeks, Cathy Smith, was tried and sentenced to three years in prison for supplying the comedian with the drugs that killed him.
