In 1936, the first-ever pop music sales chart tracking the hits of the day was introduced by Billboard, Americaʹs leading music industry magazine. The first #1 single was “Stop! Look! Listen!” by jazz star Joe Venuti and it was on a 12-inch 78-speed vinyl record.

In 1945, “Rum And Coca-Cola” by Andrews Sisters entered the Top 40 chart.

In 1946, the release of Terrytoonʹs “The Talking Magpies” cartoon introduced the characters Heckle and Jeckle by Paul Terry, inventor of Terrytoons.

In 1952, The Goofy film, “Fatherʹs Lion” is released.

In 1954, Elvis Presley, then a Crown Electric Co. truck driver, stopped by a Sun Records studio with an acoustic guitar and four dollars, and recorded two demos “My Happiness” and “Thatʹs When Your Heartaches Begin”. The following August, Sam Phillips the producer put Elvis in his formal studio with bassist Bill Black and Scotty Moore. A new legend was born.

In 1954, “The Pinky Lee Show”, second run, TV Childrens; debut on NBC.

In 1960, R.C., “El Paso” by Marty Robbins peaked at #1 on the pop singles chart.

In 1969, NBC manages to make “Hollywood Squares” even more juvenile by dressing the stars up as characters from childrenʹs literature and popular films, letting kids compete for fabulous toy prizes — and airing “The Storybook Squares” as part of its Saturday morning lineup.

In 1969, R.C., “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” by Paul Mauriat peaked at #76 on the pop singles chart.

In 1974, in a Brady Bunch episode called “Kellyʹs Kids”, Ken Berry and Brooke Bundy guest star as the Bradysʹ new neighbors, Ken and Kathy Kelly, who decide to adopt a son and end up with three, Ken and Kathy Kelly select eight-year-old Matt from an orphanage. Matt likes his new home, but misses his two friends, Dwayne and Steve, so the Kellys decide to adopt them, too.

In 1984, after canceling Dabney Colemanʹs “Buffalo Bill,” NBC finds a fresh new face to fill the timeslot: Harry Anderson. Having wowed audiences as grifter “Harry the Hat,” on “Cheers,” Anderson winds up getting the role of inexperienced blue-jean wearing Judge Harold T. Stone on “Night Court.” In tonightʹs debut episode, Judge Stone settles his first case, a wife accused of shooting her husband, by flipping a coin. Itʹs a wacky sitcom also starring John Larroquette that gets progressively wackier during its eight-year run.
