In 1928, Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra recorded “Ol' Man River” for Victor Records this day. The featured vocalist on the track was 29-year-old Paul Robeson. The song became an American classic. In 1957, “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss was released to bookstores by Random House.

In 1962, “Bob Newhart Button Down Mind” album by Bob Newhart was certified Gold by the RIAA

In 1965, Petula Clarkʹs first U.S. hit, “Downtown” was certified Gold by the RIAA. Youʹll never forget the Mrs. Miller cover once you heard it.

In 1968, NBCʹs made an unprecident on-air announcement: Star Trek will return.

In 1973, The Robert Joffrey Dance Company opened with a unique presentation in New York City on this night. The show featured music of the Beach Boys in “Deuce Coupe Ballet”. A clever show, even if it didnʹt do much to bring the masses to ballet.

In 1986, R.C., “Living In America” by James Brown peaked at #4 on the pop singles chart; “Weird Al” parodied it into “Living With A Hernia”.

In 1986, R.C., “Tarzan Boy” by Baltimora peaked at #13 on the pop singles chart.

In 1986, Valerie Harper returns to sitcoms as a harried mom in NBCʹs “Valerie.” Itʹll be the showʹs producers whoʹll be really harried, however, when Harper will walk off the successful show after only six months of filming. Lo and behold, her character will die, Sandy Duncan will star as an aunt and, presto change-o, “The Hogan Family” is born. Jason Bateman also stars.

In 1987, “Iʹll Take Manhattan”, TV Miniseries starring Americaʹs cupcake Valerie Bertinelli, began on CBS. The day before (Feb 28), she exposed a logo for a Tijuana-San Diego-based radio station for a listener who eventually won second place in a Expose The X contest.

In 1988, D.T. met Dr. Demento at The Bacchanal in San Diego where he introduced the act of Bird and McDonald for some truly adult-oriented comedy.

In 1993, “The Jerky Boys” album by The Jerky Boys was released

In 1993, The San Jose Sharks tied the NHL record for losing 17 straight games with a 6-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

In 1996, the first book of “Fuzzy Memories” by “Saturday Night Live” writer Jack Handey is published. “Fuzzy Memories” are exactly like “Deep Thoughts” except theyʹre longer and not as deep.

In 1999, In the episode “Big Shots” of the television show Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray Romanoʹs character, the fictional Newsday sports writer Ray Barone is kicked out of an event honoring the Mets' 1969 World Series championship team.
